Storm not quite over.

Yesterday's snow accumulated to a very impressive 9.5 inches of snow in Kingston. Looking at weather records from Mohonk Lake, if similar amounts were recorded at the Mohonk Mountain House (which is likely) then yesterday will have ranked as the 7th snowiest November day for Ulster County since 1896. The 9.5 inches ranks as the 14th largest snowstorm since KingstonSnow's records began in November 2004.

The storm isn't quite over. After a lull overnight with only 0.4 inches of sleet/freezing drizzle, our storm is poised to make a "grand finale" of sorts. The tail end of the storm's main curved band has managed to wrap around the backside of the storm. This will allow the curved band to clip us on the way out the door with a final "pulse" of precipitation. Expect sleet to increase in intensity early this morning, and likely change back to snow by about 7am. A rather quick inch or so of snow and sleet is possible before the storm clears out around 9AM/10AM. This renewed round of precipitation will again coincide with the morning commute and will make already slick conditions worse. Drive carefully if you must venture out this morning!

The forecast for the coming week looks to be much calmer. Other than a possible chance of some light snow or rain showers Sunday evening, really no precipitation in the forecast. However, it will continue to be chilly with highs generally running in the upper 30s to lower 40s. And lows generally in and around the 20s. Average for this time of year is highs in the upper 40s, and lows in the mid 30s.

As bumming as it may be to use a snow day this early, try to have safe fun and make the most of it! As the saying goes, “If you choose not to find joy in the snow, you will have less joy in your life but still the same amount of snow.”

Be safe. Have fun.
An update will be posted Sunday.
