6AM Tuesday

Last week brought our first below freezing temperatures of the season. The arrival of the chill was pretty much on schedule arriving just two days before our "average" first freeze. This week, we'll see a couple more chances to dip below freezing, but overall the week should be calm and clear.

Clouds this morning will clear as a a storm system moves away from our region. In the wake of the departing storm, cold northwest air will be funneled into our region as an area of high pressure moves in. This will keep our temperatures in the 40s today, and help us dip to near freezing tonight. Ample sunshine on Monday will allow our temperatures to moderate a little bit warmer. By Tuesday, The high pressure will depart and a second storm system over northern Canada will enter the region. A southwesterly flow of air between these two weather features will allow our temperatures to warm for the middle of the week, and we can't rule out some rain showers late in the day on Tuesday. On Wednesday, however, the second storm system will clear our region and usher in a renewed flow of cold northwesterly air. This will drop our temperatures as we enter the second half of the week and temperatures will likely dip below freezing Wednesday and or Thursday nights.

Image Caption: A storm system (1.) will clear the region today as an area of high pressure (2.) approaches. The flow of air between the two will usher in cold air (blue arrows). On Tuesday the high will depart and a second storm system (3.) currently over northern Canada will enter the region. The flow of air between this second pairing will usher in brief warmer temperatures (orange arrows). Cold air will follow the second storm.
