The Forecast

10PM Wednesday

Kingston picked up an even 8 inches of snow today. Today's storm was unique because Ulster County received a bullseye of the heaviest snow. The map below shows storm totals through 7AM this morning, before it had even finished snowing. The yellow color is 6 to 8 inches, and the orange is 8 to 12 inches. There is a slight chance of some delays tomorrow due to lingering road conditions, but historically it is not likely.

The map above is of southeastern New York. The black lines are county lines. Ulster County is the central county with Kingston and Ellenville.

Seasonable air will move in tomorrow with temperatures making it into the low 30s. The rest of the week will see increasing temperatures, building up to 40s by this weekend. It'll be mainly clear through the weekend. The next storm looks to be a rain event Monday into Tuesday.

Today's snow brought Kingston's season total up to 22.3 inches, which is above the 13 year average for this time of year.

The next full update will be this weekend.

Winter update
Updated: January 15, 2018

So far this season, Kingston's total snowfall has continued to hover right around the 13-year average. Tomorrow's snowfall is likely to keep us near average for another week. As we transition into February we will reach the critical point of the season. February is historically our most impactful month by far, and roughly half of all weeks between December and March that record at least 10 inches of snowfall occur in February. Seasons that record no weeks with at least 10 inches of snowfall in February have an 80% chance of ending below average, while seasons that have at least one week with 10 inches of snow in February have less than a 40% chance of ending below average. As much as I'm personally rooting for big snows, there's no way of really knowing what'll happen next month, so we'll just have to wait and see!
