Brief Overview

7:00AM Friday

This latest snow storm has been truely exceptional.
Kingston picked up 16.9 inches of snow during the 27 hour storm. About 6 of those 27 hours were during the dry slot.

Since 2000, Kingston has only seen three previous 16+ inch storms:

March 16, 2007 … . . 16 inches
February 17, 2003 … . 17 inches
January 3, 2003 … . ~16 inches

Indicating that storm of this magnitude only affects Kingston every 4 to 9 years. So take lots of pictures, because it could be a while until the next one.

Additionally,
today's cancellation is the 10th for the
Kingston City School District.

Going back to the 2004-2005 school year,
this is the most of any season, surpassing 2010-2011's 9 cancellations. Kingston is off on Monday due to President's day. The last time the district recorded a five day weekend (2 snow days + a holiday) was January 15-19, 2011 when a three inch mix of snow and ice resulted in a double snow day following
Martin Luther King Jr day.

As a result of this year's active winter, Ellenville schools are now in session on President's day.

Forecast-wise…

A quick system will likely give us another 1 to 3 inches tomorrow.
Looking for snow to be between 7AM and 7PM.

A second system may bring an additional 2 to 4 inches of snow Tuesday morning. We'll have to watch the timing trends over the weekend, because there could be school impacts.

GO ENJOY THE SNOW!
I'll update the extended forecast later today.
