Brief Overview
Last Updated: 10:00PM Feb. 13th

10:00PM Thursday

The dry slot that we have been in since mid afternoon will quickly come to an end.

Radar shows a healthy band of snow capable of producing snowfall rates in excess of an inch per hour is just south of the area. This band should trek across the area between 10pm and 1am dropping 3 to 6 inches. Lingering snow back over Pennsylvania and Maryland may produce an additional 1 to 3 inches through 4am.

When all said and done Kingston will likely be in the 12 to 16 inch range. The Catskills may approach 20 inches.

2:30PM Thursday

Heavy band of snow moved through the region between 11AM and 1PM dropping snowfall rates of over two inches per hour. As a result Kingston is already up to 8.5 inches of snow.

Snow will persist through the afternoon, but decrease in intensity. We may see a lull with relatively light snowfall rates during the late afternoon.

Later this evening, second portion of the storm that is currently over the Carolinas will surge through the region. This may possibly produce snowfall rates nearly as intense as earlier for a while.

In short, we may only be halfway through the accumulations with this system. It is very likely that we will see at least a foot… possibly up to 18 inches in some areas. All indications are that snow will not end until 2AM - 8AM tomorrow morning.

Today's cancellation is the 9th for the Kingston City School District.

Since the 2005-2006 school year the most cancellations in one school year has been 9 set during the 2010-2011 school year. The least cancellations in on school year was 3 set in 2011-2012… only two of those three were actually due to winter weather.

Update by 10PM, as usual.
