School Forecast For:
Tuesday November 27, 2012
Two-Hour Delay Cancellation Early Dismissal
20% 10% 0%

The National Weather Service has just unexpectedly updated their forecast grids within the last eight minutes… at 9:55PM to be exact. The new gird is indicating 0.3 inches of snow falling between 7AM and 1PM. This now represents the total snowfall for the entire event.

As this revised forecast reduces the anticipated snowfall by more than half, this requires adjustments to be made.

Update 9:50PM:

The latest National Weather Service forecast has the Kingston area receiving 0.2 inches of snow by 7AM, and an additional 0.6 inches by 1PM. Temperatures are predicted to reach 32 degrees around 9AM, and 36 degrees by noon.

There is some precedence for delays occurring with total snow accumulations of 0.25 inches to 0.3 inches by 7AM, however, the timing of the additional snow, would suggest that there is a slightly better chance of a cancellation- if any impact.

For this reason, I have opted to leave the probabilities unchanged from this afternoon. A cancellation is possible tomorrow, but it is more likely that schools will operate without any impact.

5:00PM Update:

A round of light snow is on tap for tomorrow.
Clouds will begin to increase this evening, followed by light snow after midnight. Snow should begin to develop by daybreak, and we could see up to an inch by the early afternoon.

At this point, the main impact will be the timing.
Although totals are not expected to be very high at all, there is the possibility of a coating of snow by 6 or 7AM. This would then be followed by additional light morning snow. The probabilities reflect this possibility.

Worth noting that, since 2004, there has never been a cancellation associated with less than an inch of snow in the Kingston City School District.

I'll post any final adjustments by 10:00PM tonight.
