The magnitude of the current heatwave that has been affecting the eastern US is unprecedented. Never before have so many temperature records been recorded this early in the year for this long a time. Cities across the northern plains that typically still have snow on the ground have climbed into the 80's and even 90's in some cases. Numerous cities have set record highs for nearly a continuous week. Yesterday, locations in both New Hampshire and Michigan recorded low temperatures that were high enough to break the previous record highs. It is currently 84 degrees in Bangor, Maine. These are just a few of the notable heat events of the past week.

There are several blogs at Wunderground.com that have done an excellent job of compiling all of the impressive data.

Closer to home, Poughkeepsie has managed to set 7 record high temperatures this month, with five consecutive records having been set in the last five days. Poughkeepsie is forecast to break tomorrow's record high temperature as well.
