Welcome to Kingston Snows!!

School Forecast For:
Wednesday February 29, 2012
Two-Hour Delay Cancellation Early Dismissal
0% 0% 60%

6:30AM Update

The district has just sent out an email stating that there will be an early dismissal.

This is actually only the 5th early dismissal since 2007, and only the 4th early dismissal actually due to snow.

6:00AM Update

Going by the radar…

Precipitation is now moving through western New York, so still expecting the steady snow to begin during the 10 o'clock hour… possibly even a little earlier. In the 12PM hour a steadier, possibly even moderate snow should set up across the district as the precipitation field moves further east. Accumulations through 2PM could range from an inch to an inch and a half, with lesser amounts actually on roadways. Snow through out the rest of the afternoon. Total accumulations of 3 to 5 inches.

Late tonight… after 8PM.. is starting to look more like a rain/sleet mix, opposed to sleet/freezing rain- - at least in the immediate Kingston area. The cooler more elevated areas of the district could still see some ice. For now, I will think of this as part two of today's storm, and focus on it later tonight.

Taking everything into consideration, I have decided to upgrade the probabilities of an early dismissal to 60%. Historically, the Kingston City School District has dismissed early for much more benign forecasts than the current one.

I'll have a brief update at 3PM,
followed by a full update by 6PM

10:15PM Update

Tonight's radar out of the Chicago area would suggest that snow should push into our area during the 10 o'clock hour tomorrow morning. Temperatures may prevent snow from sticking to roadways initially, but conditions could begin to deteriorate rather quickly by 1 or 2PM when normal dismissals would begin.

No changes to the probabilities.

Because this is a late morning/afternoon storm, I will try to have an update between 6:30AM and 7AM tomorrow.

6:00PM Update

Wednesday
A chance of snow after 10AM, then snow likely after 12PM.
There may be periods of heavy snow, especially after 2PM.
3 to 5 inches of snow is possible through sunset.
After noon high around 34.

Wednesday Night
Snow will likely turn over to a mixture of sleet and freezing rain after 6PM.
Ice and sleet accumulations during this time will depend on how much mixing occurs. Up to 0.1 inches of ice accretion is possible. Up to an inch of sleet is possible. Lows will be around 31 degrees.

Thursday
Sleet and freezing rain are likely before 6AM.
After 6AM, rain showers are possible.
High of 39.

Next Update:
