The up coming week will largely be a continuation of the almost spring-like weather; however, there are a few signs that winter may not be totally through with us yet.

Today through Tuesday
Will be mostly sunny and dry.
High temperatures will make it into the 40's.
Monday we will probably make it into the 50s.
Lows will be in the mid 20s.

Clouds will begin to increase on Wednesday.
The high temperature will only make it into the 30s.

Wednesday night into Thursday morning
there is the potential for snow showers.
Light accumulations may be possible.

Thursday and Friday
Will be mostly cloudy with high's around 40.
Lows will be in the upper 20s.

Into the weekend,
There is still too much uncertainty to speculate about the weather,
but the temperatures will likely take a notable dip beginning Saturday.

How this winter stacks up against history:

  • January was the 7th warmest January on record in Poughkeepsie. The average temperature was 32.2 degrees.
  • January gave us 6.5 inches of snow, but was far from one of the least snowy Januaries on record… the 10th least snowy January on record only received 2.5 inches of snow.
  • January was the 3rd least snowy January on record for the lower 48 states …excluding Alaska and Hawaii.
  • December was the 11th least snowy December on record for the lower 48 states.

If you're wondering where all the snow has gone this winter, it might be a good idea to look over at Europe. Europe, along with parts of Asia, has been suffering through its most intense coldwave in nearly a decade. Rome, which has only seen snow once in the past 15 years, picked up over 8 inches this week. Similar extremes exist elsewhere. In the past two weeks, over 260 people have been killed by the cold in Europe.

Next Update:
Tuesday Afternoon.
