At 11:15am on July 30, 2008 a magnitude 5.4 earthquake shook areas of southern California, just outside of Los Angeles. The quake was the strongest to shake the area in over a decade. The quake shook buildings, and knocked things from shelves, but caused relatively minor damage, since new building codes have gone into effect. The quake was centered near Chino Hills at a depth of 8 miles.
