THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ALBANY HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW AND WIND CHILL WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM
THURSDAY TO 10 AM EST FRIDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER
IN EFFECT.

  • LOCATIONS…MID HUDSON VALLEY…SOUTHERN TACONICS AND LITCHFIELD

HILLS.

  • HAZARD TYPES…HEAVY SNOW AND VERY COLD WIND CHILL TEMPERATURES.
  • ACCUMULATIONS…SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 8 TO 12 INCHES.
  • MAXIMUM SNOWFALL RATES…AROUND ONE INCH PER HOUR.
  • TIMING…LIGHT SNOW WILL SPREAD FROM WEST TO EAST ACROSS THE

REGION TONIGHT INTO EARLY THURSDAY MORNING. THERE SHOULD BE A
BREAK IN THE SNOW FOR A TIME LATER THURSDAY MORNING INTO A
PORTION OF THURSDAY AFTERNOON. HEAVIER SNOW WILL RETURN TO THE
AREA BY THURSDAY NIGHT…THEN THE SNOW WILL TAPER OFF SHORTLY
AFTER SUNRISE FRIDAY.

  • WINDS…NORTHEAST 5 TO 15 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 25 MPH.
  • VISIBILITIES…WILL DROP TO HALF A MILE OR LESS AT TIMES…

ESPECIALLY THURSDAY NIGHT.

  • WIND CHILL TEMPERATURES…WILL DROP TO BETWEEN 10 BELOW AND 20 BELOW

ZERO THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY MORNING.

  • IMPACTS…SNOW COVERED ROADS AND LOW VISIBILITY WILL MAKE FOR

DANGEROUS TRAVEL ACROSS THE REGION. WIND CHILL TEMPERATURES
BETWEEN 10 BELOW AND 20 BELOW ZERO WILL PRODUCE EXTREMELY COLD
CONDITIONS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER
CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF
SNOW ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS. ONLY TRAVEL IN
AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL…KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT…
FOOD…AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.

VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE LOW WIND
CHILLS. THIS WILL RESULT IN FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA IF
PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN. IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS…MAKE
SURE YOU WEAR A HAT AND GLOVES.
