…for the Kingston City School District. Kingston, NY, USA. 12401. School Closings within 50 miles

The Kingston are picked up around 5 inches over night. That is on top of the 2.5 from yesterday afternoon, so there is about 7.5 inches of very heavy sticky snow on the ground. There have been reports of totals approaching a foot ina half out towards Woodstock. The main band of snow has largly ended for the day as the main area has moved east of the region, however light snow showers are possible this morning with up to an inch of accumulation

Today we will be between storms, so the day will focus on digging out. Many areas lost power last night and there are many downed tree limbs. The weight and stickiness of this snow was exceptionally great.

Tonight we will see a return to the precipitation as yet another system begins to impact the region.Precipitation will begin to move into the area between midnight and 6am Thursday, and will start off as snow. We could see around 2 inches of accumulating snow during this time period, before things trun over to rain between 9am and 10am. This round does look to turn completely over to rain by noon. We could see up to half an inch of rain as temperatures make their way into the upper 30's. Ponding of water in areas that are prone to pooling could become an issue Thursday afternoon, especially since many dranages will be clogged with snow from last nights storm, also there is a very high water content in the snow and a prolonged period of above freezing temperatures and rain could release that moisture.

Based on unofficial reports over the past few days we have observed drastic snowfall differences depending on location in the district, as mentioned above with parts of Woodstock. It appears that these areas will continue to see higher snowfall rates, with less of a mix. The higher elevations of the district will likely see an additional 3 to 6 inces on Thursday before the rain comes into play.

In either scenario Thursday looks to be a messy commute. Thursday night the rain should change back over to snow, possibly mixed with sleet or freezing rain as the storm begins to wind down. We will likely see an additional inch or so of frozen precipitation by early friday morning when things clear out.

The timing of the snow will determine how schools operate on Thursday and Friday. Best call at the moment looks like either a delay or cancellation on Thursday, and probably a delay on Friday. Because the change over to rain in Kingston is not expected to occour until 9 or 10 am on Thursday with us picking up 1-3 inches of snow first, and the fact that the higher terrain of the district will see 3-6 inches Thursday morning. I do not expect there to be school on Thursday.

…for the Kingston City School District. Kingston, NY, USA. 12401. School Closings within 50 miles

We will see a return to the precipitation Thursday morning as yet another system begins to impact the region.Precipitation will begin to move into the area likely between 3am and 6am and will start off as snow. We will see around 1-2 inches of accumulating snow during this time period, before things trun over to rain between 9am and 10am. This round does look to turn completely over to rain by noon. We could see up to half an inch of rain as temperatures make their way into the upper 30's. Roads look to be slushy through late Thursday morning and into early Thursday morning as the rain mixes in. Some areas may see localized pooling of water on road ways as many dranage areas will be snow clogged. The higher terrain out towards Woodstock could see 2-4 inches before rain becomes a factor.

Thursday night the rain should change back over to snow, possibly mixed with sleet or freezing rain as the storm begins to wind down. The Kingston area will likely see an inch or two through Friday morning, while the higher terrain may again see higher amounts up to 3 inches possible.

For Thursday morning it is looking like the steadiest snow should be underway by 7am. 1-2 inches should accumulate before the change over to rain around 10am with up to 3 or 4 inches over the higher terrain of the district. This being said I am not anticipating school tomorrow, though the chances of a delay are higher than yesterday. Friday is still looking like a delay or a cancellation, though at the moment it appears that there is a better chance of a cancellation on Thursday.
